World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Health System and Financing has participated in a workshop on “Designing financial protection policies” held in Manila, Philippines on 10-12 September 2019.
Specifically, the objectives of the meeting were:
- to translate country data into SDG 3.8.2 indicator and perform related statistical analysis for SDG monitoring as evidence of financial protection
- to link the SDG indicator to policy design for improving financial risk protection.
This workshop has covered issues such as, ‘Financial protection in health’, ‘Health financial policies towards UHC-country experience’, ‘Data for financial protection’, ‘Measurement of living standards and ability to pay’, ‘HIC experience on financial protection’, ‘Policy discussion on health and poverty alleviation’, ‘Other approaches to measure effectiveness of financial protection policies’.
Prof Soonman Kwon, Director of the Centre gave a presentation about the experience of Korea on financial protection with the example of the expansion of benefits coverage for catastrophic health conditions. Prof Soonman Kwon and Dr. Eunkyoung Kim also participated in a policy discussion session on health and poverty alleviation.
