WHO Asia Pacific Observatory (APO) write shop on updating the APO health system review template was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 9 to 10 February 2023.
The APO health system review is a series of reports published by the WHO, which delivers a structured overview of the health system of countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The APO health system review template is a tool to guide the authors of each country's health system review, suggesting a common framework in order to facilitate a structured analysis of the health system and enable the comparison among the countries in the region.
Specific objectives of the meeting were
1. To gather expert opinions on updating the old version of the template, which was last updated in 2015 (and published in 2016)
2. Focus of the update was on restructuring the contents by balancing the chapters describing the core functions of each health system and the chapters addressing the assessments of the health system performance, and adding recently emerged issues (such as gender, health system resilience)
Prof Soonman Kwon, Director of the Centre, had provided valuable opinions based on his experience participating as an editor of APO health system reviews for various countries, as well as his expertise on health system and financing.
Dr. Sunghun Yun delivered a presentation on comparing the latest versions of the templates from three different regions (APO, AFRO, and the European observatory) during the first day of the write shop.
